What you may not realize is that freshly sprouted seeds are more nutritious pound for pound than the adult plant into which they grow. So why isn’t it we choose to eat these more often? There are many people today who grow wheatgrass shoots which is rich in chlorophyll and use a wheatgrass juicer so that they can extract the rich protein juice from out of these young plants.
There are many juicing and health enthusiasts who like to extract the juice from other sprouts as well. Certainly juices made from fresh raw organic fruits and vegetables are at their most nutritious when made using a masticating juicer. Today such juicers are becoming a common feature in 21st century kitchens as they can extract juice for a great number of fruits and vegetables compared to centrifugal juicers that you see available to buy in the high street. The fresh sprouts from seeds and pulses which have recently germinated are a great source of good quality nutritional items. However, you will need some sort of kitchen sprouter. They come in a number of different forms from the simple jute or hemp “dip and drain” sprouting bag to the more elaborate systems where they water them self but need to be connected to an electrical supply. Adding fresh sprouts to salads or stir frys are a wonderful supplement to your diet as well as being a value source of concentrated nourishment. Certainly sprouting is very easy to recommend as part of any person’s healthy lifestyle and also harvesting the whole young plant is providing your body with a living food. However, if you seal them in bags or containers and place in the fridge these plantlets are able to stay alive and vital for around about a week. However, before using them add some water to refresh them and place them on a window ledge for a short while to regain all their vitality.
Many nutritional therapists will recommend to their clients that they eat living and raw foods such as bean sprouts because of their high nutritional value. However, eating bean and seed sprouts grown in a sprouter at home does not seem the obvious choice to everyone. Nor is drinking fruit and vegetable juices freshly prepared with a juicer.
